Somerset Medical Center’s inpatient behavioral health services help patients to develop
new tools for coping and building on existing strengths. After a comprehensive assessment, a structured program of therapy, education and activities is developed
to meet each patient’s individual needs.
Who Benefits?
Adults who are having difficulty functioning in their daily lives due to emotional or behavioral issues would benefit from an evaluation. This may include people who suffer from depression, acute anxiety, bipolar disorder, dementia with a recent
severe behavioral change, psychotic disorders or suicidal ideas.
Interactive Treatment
With an interdisciplinary treatment approach, patients are actively involved in their care. They participate in a variety of goal-oriented individual and group activities
designed to develop cognitive and life skills. This therapy also focuses on developing self-confidence, managing stress and strengthening interpersonal communication skills.
The Role of Medication
Many mental illnesses can now be managed through proper medication. Our education groups teach patients about the role of medication in alleviating symptoms. This critical component of treatment reinforces the importance of compliance with a prescribed regime following discharge.
Step Down Treatment
Some patients benefit from our partial hospitalization program, in which patients receive daily care at the hospital and return home at the end of the day. This step-down treatment can be helpful in the transition back to their families, homes and jobs.
Returning Home
Continued support is often needed once patients leave our treatment setting and return home. We work closely with patients, families and referral sources to identify specific resources that will help them build on their progress.
Who Can Refer a Patient?
Psychiatrists, physicians, social service agencies, residential care facilities, hospitals, health care professionals, families, and individuals may request an evaluation for our services. Admissions may be made 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Inquiries and admissions are strictly confidential.
